(I) Secure the work firmly in a vice
(ii) Oil the taps properly. Lack of oil will cause a tap to stick tight and break
(iii) Hold the tap in proper size tap wrench (iv) Protect your eyes by wearing safety goggles when removing the broken tap with a punch and hammer
(v) When cutting long threads with a die, keep the hands clear of the sharp edges of the threaded portion coming out of die.
